4 Steps to Identify How a VA Can Support Your Business

One of the most common questions I receive from small business owners is how to figure out what they could outsource. As a solopreneur, we wear many hats and when we are first starting out, most of us have to figure out how to do everything ourselves until we start making income.

Somewhere along the line, you reach the point where you cannot sustainably manage your growing business as well as all the backend operations of your business, without sacrificing actually living your life. The only way to prevent burnout is to hire an independent contractor, like a Virtual Assistant to delegate some of those things you don’t need to be doing yourself.

But where do you begin in trying to figure out what those things could be?

Here are the 4 steps to identify how a VA can support your business:

  1. Track all your business activities for 1-2 weeks
  2. Divide the list into daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.
  3. From the daily & weekly tasks – highlight all the things that you enjoy the least in one colour and highlight all the things that take you the most time in another colour.
  4. From the activities that are highlighted with both colours (you least enjoy and take the most time), what are activities that can be delegated? That is your starting list!

I invite you to try this process to gain clarity on the things that you don’t need to be doing yourself anymore. Especially if they are things that you don’t enjoy doing and take you the most time. Those should be the first to be outsourced.

Remember: delegating anything does not mean any less of your abilities and skills. It just means that you are being strategic about growing your business sustainably and protecting your most valuable asset: yourself!
